Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that in remembrance of the struggles and sacrifices of the people during the partition of the country in 1947, August 14 will be celebrated as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' or 'Partition Horrors Memorial Day'.
As a fitting tribute to all those who lost their lives and were displaced from their roots due to the partition of the nation, the government has decided to observe 14 August every year as a day to remember their sacrifices. The declaration of such a day will remind the present and future generations of the countrymen of the pain and suffering faced by the people during Partition. Accordingly, the government declares 14 August as Partition Vibhishika Memorial Day.
The purpose of this day is to inspire us to eliminate the poison of discrimination, enmity and ill-will as well as to strengthen unity, social harmony and human sensibilities. Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day every year on 14 August.
