The TV host and his team may soon join Bol - but for now they are thinking out of the box. Popular TV journalist Mubasher Lucman has left ARY. But that doesn’t mean an end of his show ‘Khara Sach’.
The renegade journo will continue his revelations on Twitter with the hashtag #KharaSachonTwitter.
All this, while he mulls over this decision to join upcoming channel Bol.
Why he 'quit' ARY?
According to Journalism Pakistan, the channel had reservations against Lucman's numerous cases in court. A source told JP that, “Lucman and his team have quit ARY News as they were under pressure from the channel’s management due to slew of cases against them in different courts including the Supreme Court.”
The source also disclosed that the Khara Sach team was in talks with Bol news management and the audience might see them on the new channel soon.
Meanwhile, Lucman has promised his fans that he’ll keep exposing scandals through his web show Khara Sach which will start on Twitter but will soon include an audio and video feed as well. The audience will then be able to ask him questions live on Skype.
Lucman will brief his followers on Twitter about the ‘story of the day’ in 24 tweets and then they will be free to ask him questions via tweets. The host has around 1.2 million followers on Twitter.
It’s not shocking to see Mubasher Lucman quit ARY; the host spent half of 2014 off-air anyway.
Here’s a little timeline explaining how it all started:-
May 29: Lucman reportedly defamed the judiciary in his program aired on May 29, 2014.
June 11: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered Lucman to halt his show after Lal Masjid Shuada Foundation filed a petition stating that the anchorperson ridiculed people and the judiciary in his show. The show was officially off-air.
June 19: The IHC issued arrest warrants against the CEO of ARY Network, Mubashir Lucman, Akil Kareem Dedhi and Naeem Hanif on the allegation of defaming the Jang group.
July 1: The IHC issued a bailable arrest warrant as the two respondents failed to appear before the court and the case was adjourned till August 1, 2014.
September 10: Supreme Court for contempt of court notice against Lucman and CEO ARY Network Salman Iqbal after they failed to attend their hearing.
September 12: Waseem Badami left the channel after six years as a result of editorial differences with Khara Soch host Mubasher Lucman.
October 20: The Lahore High Court banned Lucman’s show. He was not allowed to participate in any program.
December 3: Dr Moeed Pirzada left ARY News to join Dunya TV on the premise that Lucman was trying to dictate the content of his show.
January 8: Communications regulator Ofcom has took notice of a complaint by the UK resident Samina Bilal against ARY News’ show Khara Sach with regard to privacy infringement.
Lucman joined ARY in 2009 but was then forced to leave in 2012 after an off-air conversation involving Lucman, anchor/journalist Meher Bukhari and business tycoon Malik Riaz went viral.
