How to prepare for NICL AO exam

Many of you had been disappointed with NICL AO administration, as earlier I shared my exam experience which was really bad. I never expect such behaviour from NICL. After many complaints, they made a committee which took decision to cancel the exam.

Lets just forget the past and prepare ourselves for the future. Today one of my reader Pritesh Singh asked me to share the NICL study plan, syllabus and structure.

Exam Structure and Syllabus

NICL is known for very easy exam. Level of difficulty is even easier than IBPS Clerk. In most of the recruitment exam, time is a big constraint but in NICL AO, you have ample time to solve questions. You have 3 hours to solve 200 questions and a descriptive test.

You can read IBPS PO syllabus, syllabus of NICL AO and IBPS PO is almost same but NICL AO is far easier than IBPS PO.

Study Material

I don't think you should buy any book right now, but most of the candidates faced difficulty in general awareness section. You should buy India Book 2013, as this book is used by most of the paper setters.

You can also buy NICL AO notes by Focus Institute. You will find drastic improvement in your after reading these notes for a week. You can get these notes here

Surprises in NICL AO exam

The only surprise in NICL AO exam is the General Awareness section. Even for Finance specialist questions like agricultural policies were asked.

Read NICL AO general awareness questions asked in Sept 2013 exam here.

I highly recommend you to read India Book 2013 and read some 1-2 months old magazines.

Expected Cutoff

Considering the level of difficulty of the exam, Cutoff for AO (General category) should be around 82-85 out 100. I can't comment on descriptive test.

Important tips

  • Keep patience while attempting questions, you have ample time. As answers are to be marked with pen, you can't change the answers once marked.
  • Don't make lame guesses in general awareness section.
  • Read newspaper daily
  • Read some old magazines
  • Concentrate on basics while preparations, don't leave any topic.
