This is the first time in the Indian Army that women officers have been approved as colonels while in service with the Corps of Signals, Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) and Corps of Engineers.
Taking a historic decision in the matter of promotion of women in the Indian Army, the Defense Ministry has promoted five women officers to the rank of colonel after completing 26 years of service. Earlier, promotion to the rank of Colonel was applicable only to women officers in Army Medical Corps, Judge Advocate General and Army Education Corps.
The five women officers selected for the time scale rank of Colonel include Lt Col Sangeeta Sardana from Corps of Signals, Lt Col Sonia Anand and Lt Col Navneet Duggal from EME Corps and Lt Col Reenu Khanna and Lt Col Richa Sagar from Corps of Engineers.
The Supreme Court has directed that women can appear in the exam for admission to the NDA, which is scheduled on September 5, to prime opportunities for women. The court said that admission etc. will be subject to its final order.
रक्षा मंत्रालय ने भारतीय सेना में महिला पदोन्नत मामले में एक ऐतिहासिक फैसला लेते हुये भारतीय सेना ने सर्विस के 26 साल पूरे होने के बाद पांच महिला अधिकारियों को कर्नल रैंक पर पदोन्नत किया है| इससे पहले, कर्नल के पद पर पदोन्नति केवल आर्मी मेडिकल कोर, जज एडवोकेट जनरल और सेना शिक्षा कोर में महिला अधिकारियों के लिए ही लागू थी|
कर्नल पद पर टाइम स्केल रैंक के लिए चुनी गई पांच महिला अधिकारियों में कोर ऑफ सिग्नल से लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल संगीता सरदाना, ईएमई कोर से लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल सोनिया आनंद और लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल नवनीत दुग्गल और कोर ऑफ इंजीनियर्स से लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल रीनू खन्ना और लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल रिचा सागर शामिल हैं|
सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने महिलाओं के लिए अवसरों प्रधान करने के लिए निर्देश दिया कि महिलाएं NDA में प्रवेश के लिए परीक्षा में बैठ सकती हैं, जो 5 सितंबर को निर्धारित है| कोर्ट ने कहा कि प्रवेश आदि उसके अंतिम आदेश के अधीन होंगे|
