Till 1965 India’s borders with Pakistan were manned by the State Armed Police Battalion. Pakistan attacked Sardar Post, Chhar Bet and Beria Bet on 9 April, 1965 in Kutch. This exposed the inadequacy of the State Armed Police to cope with armed aggression due to which the Government of India felt the need for a specialized centrally controlled Border Security Force, which would be armed and trained to man the International Border with Pakistan. As a result of the recommendations of the Committee of Secretaries, the Border Security Force came into existence on 01 Dec 1965, and Shri K F Rustamji was the first chief and founding father.

Qualification : - Matriculation or equivalent form a recognized University/Board with Two years works experience in respective trades OR
one years certificate course form Industrial Training Institute of Vocational Institute with at least one year experience in the trade OR
Two years Diploma form Industrial Training Institute in the trades or similar trades.

Age Limit : - 18 to 23 Years. As on 01.08.2017.
Age relaxation is as per Indian Govt. norms.

Application Fee : - Candidates are to pay Rs. 100/- through Demand Draft/Postal Order in facour of Concerned IG/Commandant payable at bank or post office of concerned RAs/Headquarters, under which their state falls.
There is no Application Fee for SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen Candidates.
Selection Process : - Selection process will be based on Physical Standard Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Trade Test, written Test, & Medical Examination.
