BISE Lahore which is commonly known as Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education Lahore was established in 1954 as a result of promulgation of Punjab University Act (Amendment) Ordinance. Before it's establishment Punjab University was empowered with all the rights to conduct the Matriculation and Intermediate levele examinations. Later own authorities felt the need of an independent examination controlling authority so they created BISE Lahore Board and the empowered it with rights to control the SSC, HSSC and Pakistanni & Classical Langueages examinations. The first ever examination conducted by this board was taken in year 1955. Since than Lahore Board is working hard to promote the cause of education and spread the light of knowledge. At the time of inception the BISE Lahore board inherited a very large territorial jurisdiction which included province of Punjab, Azad Kashmir, Baluchistan and Northern Areas. Lahore Board also made the arrangements to conduct the overseas students by creating examination centres in Kuwait and Nairobi (Kenya).
