The star of the evening was Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, the boy hero who went back into the school to save his friends on 16 December 2014. He was shot and was wheelchair bound for over a year, but is finally walking again with the help of crutches. He commended DIL UK’s efforts and said that building and running schools in remote and under served areas was the best gift to the children of Pakistan. Malala’s parents were present on the occasion and her father Ziauddin Yusufzai praised Ibrahim’s bravery and applauded DIL UK for their work for children in Pakistan and the UK. He pledged his support to DIL UK by sponsoring a classroom in a DIL school, for a year.
