The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme was established to maintain and develop international research linkages and specifically aims to:
attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the Australian higher education sector; and
support Australia's research effort.
In addition to IPRS, Curtin has a number of Strategic International Research Scholarships (CSIRS) available for new future students planning to commence in 2016.

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) provides:
course tuition fee for two years for a Masters by Research and three years for a Doctoral degree; and
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the recipient and their dependants for the duration of the award.
In addition, all successful applicants will receive an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) valued at $25,849 (2015 value) for living allowance. This tax-free stipend is indexed annually.
Curtin Strategic International Research Scholarship (CSIRS) provides:
course tuition fee for three years for a Doctoral degree; and
basic single overseas health cover (OSHC) for the recipient; and
a stipend equivalent to that of the APA valued at $25,849 (2015 value) per annum tax free for the duration of your study.

IPRS: Candidates from any field of endeavour are welcome to apply.
Strategic Research Areas for CSIRS (Applicants must be new future students intending to commence in Research Term 1, 2016 and their research proposals must aligned with one of the areas listed below):
Energy Economics: This builds on a growing platform of research which straddles both Economics and Finance as well as CGSB (and thus DMEE). It also ties in with the interests in oil and gas, renewal energy. Given the range of issues facing this arena ranging from world market analysis, security of supply and climate change implications.
Supply chain/ logistics: Supply chain research not only taps into research being undertaken in the School of Information Systems but also has relevance in Agri-business and to a lesser extent Health Sciences through centre such as CESSH. Understanding the data/information requirements, varying stakeholder objectives, and numerous cultures as we move to a global economy is critical.
Big Data/ Decision Analysis: This area is able to leverage off both the CiC and the HIVE/Pawsey facilities and taps into knowledge regarding combined qualitative and quantitative modelling and data mining.
Luxury Branding: This growing area is supported through CBS cluster and sees important strengths in international capacity particularly in Asia where there are existing excellent relationships with industry and academia.
Creative, Cultural and Critical Inquiry: The faculty's special-focus fields of research are Building; Urban and regional planning; Specialist studies in education; Communications and media studies and Cultural studies.
New Knowledge Environment: The faculty's special-focus fields of research are Building; Urban and regional planning; Specialist studies in education; Communications and media studies and Cultural studies.
Sustainability and Sustainable Development: The faculty's special-focus fields of research are Building; Urban and regional planning; Specialist studies in education; Communications and media studies and Cultural studies.
Geosciences: Fundamental and applied planetary science; global systems, resources and environmental change;
Chemical & Environmental Sciences: Application of analytical, spectroscopic and computational methods in materials, water and medicinal chemistry research; Fundamental and applied research relating to environmental biology, agriculture and marine science.
Physics and Astronomy: Research focusing on astrophysics, theoretical physics, material and environmental physics;
Mechanical & Chemical Engineering: Fundamental and applied research relating to energy, natural resource processing, sustainable engineering, fluid mechanics & thermal processes.
Eligibility criteria
IPRS - available for Current (student who enrolled between 1 Sep 2014 - 30 May 2015 only) and Future Students:
Your must be an international student (excluding New Zealand);
You must be studying for your first PhD;
Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and research capacity to suitably qualified overseas graduates eligible to commence a higher degree by research in 2016;
Applicants must have gained admission already or have lodged an admission application for Research term 1, 2016;
Applicants must meet admission English language requirement for the chosen course of study by 4th Sep 2015;
Applicants whose English are conceded by the enrolling areas will meet admission but not scholarships requirement;
Not have held an AusAID scholarship within two years prior to commencing the IPRS;
current students who meet the following guidelines:
Commenced your higher degree by research program in the previous year (after 31 August) but, due to the timing of your application and subsequent enrolment you were unable to apply for and IPRS in that year; or
Commenced your higher degree by research program but withdrew from that program within six months of commencement;
CSIRS - For Future Students only
You must be an international student (excluding New Zealand);
Scholarships are merit base, your research must align with at least one of the Strategic research areas and you must be commencing a higher degree by research in 2016 for the first time;
You must be studying for your first PhD;
Applicants must meet English language requirements for the chosen course of study by 4th Sep 2015;
