Grenade attack on private school in Karachi

KARACHI: Unknown motorcyclists threw a grenade near a private school in Karachi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block 7 area Tuesday morning caused fear and panic among residents but no loss of life or property was reported in the incident.

DIG East Munir Sheikh, said that the school did not directly targeted in the attack, adding that the explosion had taken the school in an alley between two sections.

He also said he reported no casualties, the school is closed and no students or staff were on the premises.

The attackers also left a threatening letter before fleeing the scene.

Security and emergency teams reached the site and cordoned off the area. A trace of the University of the road was blocked after the incident that caused a rumble of traffic in the area.

Director General Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar visited the site of the explosion.

Minister of Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro learned of the explosion and asked for a report on the incident extra police Inspector General (AIG) in Karachi.
After the massacre at the Army Public School in Peshawar December 16, which killed more than 150 people dead, including 141 schoolchildren, the winter holidays of schools by the government for security reasons have been extended.

The government of Sindh had announced that only schools should look for classes in which the foolproof security arrangements have been made to reopen. The Commission has also decided to implement a "short-term security plan" for all educational institutions in the city.
