Cultist Clash In Ondo, Kills One

A middle-aged man has been shot dead during
a violent clash between youths suspected to be
members of rival cult groups in Ondo town,
Ondo State.
Our correspondent learnt that the deceased,
identified simply as Bolaji, was at a relaxation
centre on Ijoka Street, in Ondo town, when he
was shot by the group of armed youths on
Monday.
Residents say Bolaji was a notable member of
the Eiye cult group and had been involved in
the different clashes in the town before his
death.

The police in the state confirmed the incident,
adding that no arrest had been made so far.
The Divisional Police Officer at the Enuowa
Police Station, Mr. Kunle Omisakin, said his
division was working to ensure the culprits
were arrested and prosecuted.
He said, “Efforts have been stepped up to rid
the community of cult activities.”
It was learnt that security had been strengthened in the town to forestall an
anticipated reprisal.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Isaac
Eke, had last week paraded 33 persons
suspected to be members of different cult
groups.
He had said the effort was to keep the state
free from violence during and after the general
elections.
