Appointments

  • Tejendra Mohan Bhasin (T.M. Bhasin) elected as the Chairman of Indian Banks Association (IBA) while Arundhati Bhattacharya elected as the Honorary Secretary of Indian Banks Association.

Politics

  • On 19th August 2014, Afghanistan celebrated its 95thIndependence day. Afghanistan got Independence from the British Empire after fighting three Anglo-Afghan wars and ultimately signed the Anglo-Afghan treaty to get the independence. The capital of Afghanistan is Kabul.
  • Delhi Development Authority (DDA)  approved the modification proposal in the Master Plan of India’s capital Delhi – 2021 which plan incorporates the innovations for the development of the National Capital.
  • The Government of South Africa has taken the important decision about the illegal poaching of rhinos. The Ministry of Environment of South Africa decided to evacuate 500 rhinos from Kruger National Park to curb the illegal poaching of rhinos which is one of the largest parks of South Africa.
  • Two Districts of the State of Rajasthan namely Ajmer and Alwar declared Smoke Free districts. Two other districts of the State of Rajasthan namely Jhunjhunu and Jodhpur already declared Smoke Free districts. Now, Rajasthan has 4 Smoke Free Districts.

Deaths

  • Amitava Nandy, the famous leader of Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) died due to cancer. He was the Member of Parliament of 14th Lok Sabha.

Awards

  • The renowned and oldest Wrestling school of India namely Guru Hanuman Akhara elected for Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar for the year 2014. The most famous wrestlers Dara Singh, Sushil Kumar, Yogendra Kumar etc. attended Guru Hanuman Akhara.
  • Pakistan elected M.S. Swaminathan to honour with the Degree of Doctor of Science. The Degree given by University of Agriculture which located in city Faisalabad. M.S. Swaminathan is the renowned Agriculture Scientist of India who also awarded with World Food Prize, Ramon Magasaysay Award, Padma Bhushan and many other awards.

Sports

  • The State of Madhya Pradesh became the member of Hockey India. It is the 23rdmember of Hockey India. Hockey India is the apex body of India to promote the Hockey in youth.
