Science and Technology

  • Radar Imager for Mars Subsurface Exploration (RIMFAX) will be sent to Mars to study the centimeter-scale resolution of the geologic structure of the subsurface. RIMFAX is a ground penetrating radar.

Sports

  • On 12th August 2014, Jo Pavey became the oldest woman to win the Gold Medal in European Championships. This championship has organized by European Athletics Association. Recently, She won a Bronze Medal in Commonwealth Games 2014.
  • Real Madrid Football Club won the UEFA Football Super Cup by defeating the Sevila Football Club. Now, Real Madrid has 14 European Trophies included this one. The UEFA Super Cup is organized annually.
  • The State of Himachal Pradesh will host the Paragliding World Cup in the next year 2015 which will be organized by Paragliding World Cup Association.

Awards

  • The Global South Award given by International Political Science Association (IPSA) to Dr. Sunil Kumar who is the renowned Professor of Delhi University on 13thAugust 2014 for his paper titled as Changing Landscape of Electoral Democracy and Political Demography based on the General Election 2014.
  • Munjal Bhargava won the Noble Prize of Mathematics. Moreover, Subhash Khot also won the Rolf Nevanlinna Prize which is awarded by International Mathematical Union.
  • The Tourism Ministry of India has declared that the State of Sikkim became the most favoured destination for foreign tourists in the North-East Region. Before this, the State of Sikkim has declared the best place to visit. Moreover, Sikkim also won the National Tourism Award 2012.

 Business and Economy

  • Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) became the first Indian Company to cross Rs.5 Lakh Crore Market capitalization. Till today, no other national company can reach at this target. TCS is an IT Company.
  • The Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley relaunched the insurance scheme for senior citizens aged 60 years and above. LIC will administered this scheme.
