30th April:
  • A FIR lodged against BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi by the Gujarat police following an order of the Election Commission's which held that he violated the model code.
  • Seventh phase of Lok Sabha election held in seven states and two union territories today.
  • Real Madrid defeated title holder Bayern Munich 4-0 on the second semi-final to reach the final of Champions League.
29th April:
  • The Indian Government submitted a list of 26 names in the Supreme Court in the black money case.
  • Nokia appointed India born Rajeev Suri as its new President and CEO of the company.
28th April:
  • A court in Egypt sentenced to death 683 alleged supporters of the country's ousted president.
  • Liverpool striker Luis Suarez named the English Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) player of the year.
26th April:
  • India successfully test-fired an anti-ballistic missile capable of intercepting targets outside the earth's atmosphere.
  • Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha sworn in as the 41st Chief Justice of India.
  • South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won announced his resignation over the government response to the ferry disaster in which 187 died till now most of which are students.
  • International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards for 2014 given at Florida, USA.
  • Pope Francis declared John XXIII and John Paul II as saints in a historic double canonisation in St. Peter's Square.
25th April:
  • The Supreme Court referred the issue related to the release of the three assassins of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi to a larger constitutional bench.
  • A chargesheet filed in a court by Enforcement Directorate against former Telecom Minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and 17 others over money laundering in 2G spectrum allocation case.
24th April:
  • The sixth phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections ended in 117 seats in 11 states and in one Union Territory.
  • BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi files nomination with massive roadshow in Varanasi.
  • The asset of Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple of Kerala will be audited by Vinod Rai as order given by Supreme Court.
23rd April:
  • The Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) amended the rule which bans use of portable electronic devices, allowing usage in all phases of the flight - including take-off and landing in a non-transmitting mode, known as the flight mode.
  • Cadbury India Limited announced to change its name to Mondelez India Foods Limited.
22nd April:
  • Earth Day is celebrated across the globe.
  • The Election Commission has banned BJP's Giriraj Singh from campaigning in Bihar and Jharkhand for his hate remarks.
  • Midfielder Ryan Giggs appointed as interim manager of Manchester United, shortly after the club announced the sacking of David Moyes.
  • Chitra Magimairaj of Bangalore wins World Women's senior snooker title on her debut.
21st April:
  • Supreme Court lifted a 19 month old ban on mining in Goa.
  • Bengaluru FC beat Dempo 2-4 to wins I-League crown title for the first time.

  • 13 sherpa died in an ice avalanche in Mount Everest, Nepal.
18th April:
  • Election Commission lifts campaign ban on Amit Shah.
  • Nobel Prize winner and renowned Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez died at the age of 87.
17th April:
  • Voting done in 12 states covering 121 constituencies in the fifth phase which is the biggest of the nine-phased Lok Sabha polls.
  • Admiral RK Dhowan took over as 22nd Chief of Indian Navy.
  • Supreme Court said that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) can audit the account books of private telecom companies which share revenue with the government for using spectrum.
  • Real Madrid wins the 19th Copa del Rey title after defeating Barcelona by 2-1.
16th April:
  • More than 280 people mostly students were missing after a ferry capsized off South Korea.
  • Indian Premier League 2014 starts in Sheikh Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi.
  • Hansal Mehta wins the best director and Rajkummar Rao wins the best actor award at the National Award for the film 'Shahid'. 'Jolly LLB' has won the National Award for best Hindi film.
15th April:
  • The Supreme Court in a landmark judgment recognised transgender community as a third gender and called on the government to ensure their equal treatment.
  • The Guardian US and Washington Post were awarded the most prestigious Pulitzer prize for coverage of secret surveillance by the U.S. National Security Agency.
  • Vijay Seshadri, a Sarah Lawrence College professor wins Pulitzer Prize for his "3 Sections," in poetry section.
14th April:
  • India celebrates Ambedkar Jayanti in the memory of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.
  • 71 people were killed and 124 injured in two blasts in a crowded bus station in Nigeria.
13th April:
  • 2 police personnel were killed by militants in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.
12th April:
  • 12 people including five CRPF men and seven polling officials were killed in twin Maoist attacks in the Bastar area of Chhattisgarh.
  • 79-year-old veteran filmmaker and lyricist Gulzar has been chosen for the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award, the highest official recognition for film personalities in India.
11th April:
  • Election Commission has banned BJP leader Amit Shah and Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan from addressing public meetings and rallies in Uttar Pradesh and also ordered to registered FIR against the two politicians for making "highly inflammatory speeches" while campaigning for the general elections in the state.
  • Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of India and he will assume his charge on April 27.
10th April:
  • Third Phase of voting done across 14 states and union territories for 91 Lok Sabha seats.
9th April:
  • Second phase of the Lok Sabha election held for six Lok Sabha seats in the four northeastern states of Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya besides Arunachal Pradesh where Assembly elections were also held.
  • The decommissioned aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy, INS Vikranthas been sold for Rs. 60 crore to a company named IB Commercial Pvt Ltd.

7th April:
  • World Health Day 2014 observed across the world.
  • In the first phase of 16th Lok sabha election, 72.5 percent voting turnout in the five constituencies in Assam and 84 percent in one constituency in Tripura.
  • 17 people were killed when a bus fell about 400 metres into a gorge near Milla village, Himachal Pradesh.
6th April:
  • BJP and Telugu Desam Party announce an alliance for the national and state elections in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Koyal Rana of Jaipur crowned as Femina Miss India 2014 at the 51st edition of the beauty pageant.
  • Sri Lanka wins the T20 World Cup after defeating India by 6 wickets in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
  • Australia wins the Women T20 World Cup after defeating England by 6 wickets.

4th April:
  • The Indian Space Research Organisation has placed successfully into orbit the second satellite of the seven in the series called the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).
  • India reaches the final of T20 World Cup after defeating South Africa by 6 wickets.
3rd April:
  • Election Commission India confirmed Amir Khan as its national icon for the Lok Sabha elections 2014.
  • Myanmar started its first official census in 30 years.
  • Turkey's telecoms authority lifted a two-week-old ban on Twitter after the constitutional court ruled the block breached freedom of expression.
2nd April:
  • 5 killed in an earthquake of magnitude 8.2 in Chile on Tuesday which also triggering a tsunami alert in the country's northern coast.
  • RBI granted "in-principle" approvals to Mumbai-based infrastructure lender IDFC and Kolkata- based micro-finance Bandhan Financial Services for new bank licences.

  • US Ambassador to India Nancy Powell announced her resignation and submitted her resignation to Barack Obama.
  • BCCI has taken out the employees from India Cements and its associate companies from the Board as a follow up of the order of Supreme Court.
