Rawalpindi:13 March: The chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi has constituted a three-member committee to probe into the complaints of students about the out of course mathematics paper on Monday.
Majority of students appearing in the Secondary School Certificate (Part-II) examination claimed that the mathematics paper was out of course and they should be awarded grace marks.
Dr Mohammad Zareef, the chairman of the BISE, told Dawn that the inquiry committee had been directed to submit a report in three days.
“If it is established that the paper was out of course, defiantly we will award grace marks to the students,” he added.
The committee comprised mathematics professor Mohammad Safdar of Asghar Mall College, associate professor Safia Ifthikar and the board’s assistant controller Ifthikar Hussain.
The government and private school associations have also criticised the BISE for the ‘out of course’ paper.
“The paper was more than 50 per cent irrelevant,” said Azmat Israil, the general secretary of the Punjab Teacher Union Rawalpindi chapter.
He demanded that the BISE should award grace marks to all the students to save their future.
On the other hand, the Private School Association is also demanded grace marks for the students.
“The paper was against the study scheme. Besides a number of irrelevant questions, the BISE included a geometry compulsory question in the paper,” said President All Pakistan Private School Association, Rawalpindi chapter, Abrar Ahmed Khan.
He said the second shift paper was also confused and out of course compared to the paper in the morning session.
The BISE prepared the paper according to the new study scheme but did not inform the teachers about the development.
The teachers throughout the year followed the old course, he added.
Both the associations warned that if their demand was not met, they would stage a series of protest demonstrations against the BISE.
“There will be no compromise on students’ future. We welcomed BISE chairman’s decision to form the probe committee. In case the students are not provided justice, we would launch a protest move,” he added.Dawn.
