Lahore:10 March:Punjab Minister for Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that approximately 600 overseas Pakistani employees play a significant role in national economic development.
Addressing participants in a Pakistan manpower promotion conference on the concluding day of a ‘job fair’ under the Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) at Expo Centre on Sunday, he said, “This meagre number of expatriates is not commensurate with the actual potential of our younger generation. All government agencies including the National Manpower Bureau should make concerted efforts to enhance the employability of the Pakistani youth to achieve prosperity for our nation.”
According to a handout, the minister emphasised technical training to a larger number of youths and improve their linkage with employer networks in the global market. He termed it a golden chance for technicians and trained workers of the textile sector to come forward as the present regime had succeeded in obtaining the GSP-Plus status from the European Union. He said the Punjab government had provided a platform to all relevant firms and institutes to facilitate job seeking youths. He hoped that more than 100,000 youths would get white collar jobs after the job fair. He also visited stalls of various local firms and multinational companies along with his wife Farhat Mashhood and minutely observed the ongoing registration process in the job fair.
Meanwhile, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has stressed the need for exhibiting the exemplary social behaviour before the foreign students studying in Pakistan so that a soft image of our country could be portrayed in the comity of nations.

He said this while presiding over the first ever Youth Convention held under the Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) 2014 on the Punjab University (PU) premises here Sunday. The topic of this session was “Unity in Diversity”. The foreign students from various friendly countries currently studying in the PU put questions during the interactive dialogue session.
PU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dean Faculty of Behavioural and Social Studies Prof Dr Zakria Zakir, Prof Faisal Kamal Haideri and Prof Fouzia Kazim spoke on the occasion while a renowned TV anchorperson Sohail Warraich delivered the key note address.
Dr Mujahid Kamran said Pakistan was founded on diversity. The VC said he did not recall any government of the Punjab or any chief minister of any province that had taken such initiative. He said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had taken a keen interest in developing, energising and providing facilities to the youth. Sohail Waraich said, ‘we must accept diversity to ensure unity, adding we should learn to handle happiness and pleasure to strengthen unity among ourselves. He said there was no preference in our religion on the basis of caste, race and colour.
He said the modern definition of the democracy was that it was the government of majority which looked after minority. He said our language Urdu was the best example of diversity and that’s why Urdu was prospering. He said the key to success was that we accepted each other and each other’s point of view. Dr Zakria Zakir said every human being was distinct by nature. He added education made human beings misfit for slavery and human beings must be considered autonomous. Earlier, expressing his views on a dialogue “Bridging the Digital Divide: Pakistan on Cross Roads”, the PU VC said that Internet had made the entire world a library and a lot of information which were concealed from the masses of the world had now become accessible. He said now one could find documents which described how the world was being controlled by the financial elite.
The discussion under “Entrepreneurship: Challenges and Opportunities in Pakistan” was chaired by Dean Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences Prof Dr Ehsan Malik. PU Director Students Affairs Shahid Gul, faculty members and a large number of foreign students from various public and private sector universities were present on the occasion. During the proceedings of the convention, a foreign student suggested that foreign students studying at Pakistani universities and colleges should also be awarded laptops under the Punjab government’s laptop scheme.The news.
