1- High treason case: FIA sends notices to Musharraf’s collaborators
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued notices to military ruler General Pervez Musharraf’s collaborators in the imposition of emergency in 2007, taking into a decisive phase the investigation of a high treason case against Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution.
The agency has summoned for questioning former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, his principal secretary Khalid Saeed, former law secretary Justice (retd) Ajmal Mian and seven other top government functionaries, reliable sources told the Express Investigation Cell (EIC).

2- Schedule in peril: ECP worried by impact of flooding on by-elections
With rain wreaking havoc across vast swathes of territory and flood waters, once again, inundating low laying districts, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is concerned about the possible implications that the calamity may have on the August 22 by-elections.
The proximity of the polling date, now less than three weeks away, has prompted the election commission to ask its officials to take into account the impact of flooding on the election schedule. The decision comes amidst growing concern about flash floods which have so far claimed 58 lives.

3- Missing persons’ tragedy: Rights activists propose parliamentary panel
Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday asked the incumbent government to form a parliamentary committee for the permanent solution of the chronic missing persons’ issue.
The committee should be answerable only to the Prime Minister for proposed legislation in this regard in consultation with relatives of missing persons, the seminar recommended.

4- Terrorist threat: Airport Road becomes airport arrival area, and just as messy

Long queues of vehicles were witnessed from Gulzar-e-Quaid to Rahimabad Bridge as passengers and their relatives spent Lailatul Qadr in front of Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA).
The incoming passengers endured multiple problems due to a ban on entering airport premises for non-passengers and the blockade of one side of the road leading to Islamabad due to security threats.
Many expatriate Pakistanis are heading home for the Eid holidays and a large number of their relatives could be seen sitting in front of the main airport gate, with a few wandering around looking for the passengers.

5- New heights: Mangla Dam reaches 1,213 feet above sea level for the first time

In a landmark development, water in the Mangla Dam on Tuesday has reached a historic level of 1,213 feet above mean sea level for the first time. With this record level, present live storage in the Mangla water reservoir has increased to 5.21 million acre feet (MAF).
Filling of additional water in the raised Mangla Dam reflects the federal government’s commitment to conservation and optimum utilisation of the precious yet scarce resource of water for agro-based economy of the country. Previously, Mangla lake attained the maximum level of 1,210 feet two years back in 2011.

6- FBR orders action against former SECP chairman
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has ordered action against former chairman of the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Muhammad Ali for concealing personal investments and not filing wealth statements while serving as one of the country’s top regulators, official documents reveal.

“As per the e-FBR portal, the taxpayer has not been filing wealth statements,” said an FBR letter dated August 1, 2013, which asked the Commissioner IR Zone-II, RTO III Karachi, to expedite proceedings against him. “This attracts penal proceedings under the relevant provisions of Income Tax Ordinance 2001.”

7- 13 passengers going to Punjab from Quetta shot dead
Gunmen in police uniform killed 13 passengers, who were going to their hometowns in the Punjab from Quetta ahead of Eidul Fitr, on Tuesday.

The bloody incident took place in the Gashtari area of Mach, some 80 kilometres southeast of Quetta, in the wee hours of Tuesday when dozens of armed men in police uniforms attacked the Punjab-bound passenger coaches.

8- Pakistan rejects claims of Indian media on LoC incursions
Pakistan on Tuesday completely rejected the Indian media allegations about an attack across the LoC in the Poonch Sector in which five Indian soldiers were claimed to have been killed, saying that it firmly adhered to the spirit of the 2003 agreement.

The Indian leadership itself appeared confused about the manner of the alleged attack and identity of the attackers.“These are baseless and unfounded allegations. Our military authorities have confirmed that there had been no exchange of fire that could have resulted in such an incident,” the Foreign Office spokesman said.

9- Colonel, captain, Diamer SSP killed in Chilas firing

Unknown armed assailants shot dead three security officers and injured another early Tuesday morning.
The incident took place in Chilas city, the headquarters of district Diamer of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), where terrorists ambushed the security officials.

As a result of firing, two Pakistan Army officers – Colonel Ghulam Mustafa and Captain Ashfaq – and SSP Diamer Hilal Ahmed were killed on the spot while a cop sustained injuries. The police and Army officers were investigating the massacre of foreign climbers.

10- ECP calls for army deployment for by-polls in Punjab

Despite the refusal of the Punjab government, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to deploy the army in the by-elections in the Punjab while the army has sought the polling scheme from the ECP for the by-polls.

The military officials also demanded details of sensitive and most sensitive polling stations from the ECP. On the other hand, the ECP has assured to provide the polling scheme to military officials within a couple of days.
